Disciples of Christ

Are YOU a true disciple of Christ?  Do you worship Him with all your heart, soul and mind?  Does your love for God show in your love for others, in your readiness to forgive, your eagerness to make new acquaintances and to spread the word of God and His love, through His son Jesus Christ, by the power of His Holy Spirit?

Matthew 22:35-40

35Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 36Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Jesus makes it quite clear that God desires that we must love Him over and above everyone and everything else.  There is no room for compromise here.  If we are to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven we are to give our lives wholly and completely to God and allow Him, through His son Jesus Christ, to fill us with His Holy Spirit then to trust in Him completely and to allow Him to lead us where He will have us go.  Others will not always understand why we do the things that we do, why some appointments cannot be kept, why we give so much of our time to strangers and may have less time for family and friends.  We love our family and friends deeply, we watch over them, even from a distance, we pray and trust that God will keep them safe.

Jesus said to Simon and Andrew, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men and they straightway left their nets, and followed him."  He called James and John  "And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him."

Matthew 4:12-24

12Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee; 13And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim: 14That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

15The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;

16The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

17From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

18And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. 19And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. 21And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. 22And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.

23And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

24And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them. 25And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.
